This workshop investigated methods for analyzing the design of web-based interfaces. Jonathan and I prompted participants to annotate popular interfaces in order to identify the purposes, agents, and qualities of their user experiences. These annotations then served as a starting point for participants to design inverted versions of interfaces, which expressed features and design values opposite to those that they originally identified. Through the workshop, participants were able to reflect on the ways that design shapes user experiences according to a variety of design goals and criteria.
