Multivore is an illustration of attention capturing techniques like multivariate testing that mediate human needs in a profit-driven economy. The work centers the encroachment of profit-optimizing logistical infrastructures on the food retail industry, focusing specifically on Amazon's acquisition of Whole Foods and its cashierless Amazon Go convenience stores. Here the banal and inconspicuous design of refrigerators becomes vulnerable to the same strategies of attention capture and layout optimization used on Amazon webpages, in order to provoke the question: what areas of life are we willing to have optimized for the sake of convenience and access?
